Fall Improv Workshop Series

Young Actors in grades 7 and up are invited to attend auditions for the YYT Fall Improvisational Acting Workshop Series; Wednesday, September 21, and Monday, September 26, from 6 - 9 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Washington St. (at the corner of Washington and Emmet).  Parent meetings during auditions (6 - 7) - parents need to stay for that time to learn about volunteering for rehearsal monitoring, set building, and costumes.   Parent meetings are mandatory.

Old time YYT actors please note - this class is limited to roughly 20 actors, the final number and who they are being at Rob's discretion.  This is not our usual method, but for the Improv Workshops, it's necessary.  Please come and try out, but be aware of that change from the normal.  Another unusual thing that is special for this show is that the fee is higher than normal - $65.  Scholarships are still available - ask Meredith or Ellen.

Performance(s) will be the weekend before Thanksgiving, which is the weekend of November 19, location TBA.  See Mr. Rob's description below for details on the workshops:

YYT IMPROV CLASS!!

Many have asked for an Improv class, and the time is here!

Mr. Rob has spent lots of acting time in Improvisation-Theatre, and is happy to instigate the fun with YYT!

"IMPROV? Does it really work?” Yes. When we watch “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” yes, those guys'n'gals are making it up AND performing it, right on the spot.

This will NOT be a stand-up comedy class, but Improv-Theatre, with less focus on the Joke, and more on Improvisational Acting.We learn:

To create the story as a team;

to work TOGETHER, with ALL players driving the show;

to trust each other;

to “trust the scene” and just go with it;

to “Let go” and try anything!

Plus a lot of handy stage-skills: listening, adding-on, developing story, trading focus, etc...

Class will consist of Exercises, Improv-Scenes, Games and Challenges. Everyone is expected to participate to the max.

Mr. Rob always found the Improv work to be a great help to regular, line-learning play-acting!

We're aiming at 3-hour classes, with intense work. The class is for 7th-grade & up, admission may be limited (20 or so maximum, at director's discretion).We meet Mondays & Wednesdays, starting Wednesday September 21!

The plan is to finish the class with a “Special Event,” possibly a Murder-Mystery Dinner Party!
